Gov’t Seeks Shs284bn Supplementary To Fight Coronavirus

The Uganda Government has tabled before Parliament a supplementary budget worth Shs284 billion aimed at fighting the COVID -19 pandemic.

The supplementary budget request was tabled by Matia Kasaija (pictured), the Finance Minister during yesterday’s plenary sitting chaired by Speaker Rebecca Kadaga.

According to Government, the supervision and implementation of the directives geared towards mitigating spread of COVID-19 will cost Shs81bn, while Shs62 billion has been allocated to the health sector, disaster management will account for Shs59bn, while Shs36 billion has been allocated to local governments, while KCCA will get Shs30 billion and the Ministry of ICT will get Shs14 billion.

However, Budadiri West lawmaker, Nandala Mafabi said that some of the money requested should have been drawn from vote 130 which collects debt repayment since all debt repayment was suspended due to corona virus outbreak.

Kadaga sent the request to the Parliamentary Budget Committee for perusal and report back to Parliament.
