COVID-19 Impact: Victoria University Offers 50% Tuition Discount To Both New & Existing Students

Victoria University officials launching the new fees structure

Victoria University, one of the fastest growing private Universities in Uganda, has announced a new fees structure that will support students with a 50% discount for new and existing students.

This is due to the COVID-19 pandemic that has left many people’s income streams adversely affected.

Announcing the development at Victoria University today, Sudhir Ruparelia, the brain behind the University said the new  fees structure is aimed at enabling students access affordable quality education in light of the COVID-19 pandemic that has hit economies.

The 50% reduction will benefit both Ugandan and international students.

“Though emphasis has been put on health, Victoria University has decided to support the community by charging half the tuition. The pandemic is still here for some time; we want to offer affordable education to support Ugandans and students from abroad,” Sudhir  said.

Victoria University Director and Promoter, Rajiv Ruparelia said: “The initiative is to keep education at the core of nurturing talents and skill. ..‪Now more than ever, Victoria University is here to keep dreams alive.”

He added: “To be able to attract students in order to grow Victoria University community as we know that the current economic situation is not so good, we used this opportunity to give back to the community by adjusting on our fees structure.”

The Chairman of Victoria University Council, Atike Matovu said that the University made a decision to reduce the fees structure to ensure continuity of learning by the students at affordable rates.

“University ought to make sound and bold moves to ensure learning continues and thus cut on tuition. Victoria realized that quality education should be acceptable by all and therefore has taken a drastic positive step,” he said

The acting Vice Chancellor, Victoria University, Bill Nkeeto noted that in order to foster innovation and create a positive social and economic impact, the reduction in the cost of education is a tailored made support to government efforts of building a better society post COVID19.

The event was also attended by Sheena Ruparelia (Director), Mary Goreete Katushabe- Academic Registrar and Students Recruiters among others.

The university recently set a bar so high by rolling out free e-learning to help students complete their classes which were cut short by the COVID- 19 outbreak.
The University Vice Chancellor Dr Krishna Sharma said the university is ready to commence online teaching adding that all the issues raised in the guidelines by NCHE have already been in place at Victoria University and that the online classes will be conducted at a free cost while those who will not be able will be provided with printed contents for self-study.
