The Government of the Peoples Republic of China through the City of Changsha has injected Shs1.5bn (400,000 US Dollars) into Entebbe Changsha Model Primary School.
According to details of the deal, the money is meant to help construct teachers’ staff houses, build play areas, erect a perimeter wall and to renovate the existing school infrastructures.
The Entebbe Town Clerk, Charles Magumba, expressed gratitude towards the Chinese government saying that the school has been able to receive the said funds because of the good relationship between Entebbe Municipality with the city of Changsha.
The Town Clerk revealed that Entebbe Municipal council has contracted Sino hydro company to undertake the construction works at the school and that by June next year the project must be completed.
He appealed to neighbors of the school to cooperate with the contractor and to avoid stealing some of the building materials.
The Entebbe Municipality mayor, Vincent Kayanja, hailed Changsha city for the financial inputs contributed towards the school infrastructure.
Mayor Kayanja noted that as Entebbe Municipal, they are faced with the challenge of maintenance and sustainability and called on stakeholders to come up with a clear plan to address these issues.
He asked members of the community to embrace and support the project and also appealed to the head teacher to allow members of the community to enjoy the playground that is going to be established.
Dan Ndagga, the Entebbe Municipal District Education officer, urged teachers to be role models to learners and to uphold the image of the school.
On the other hand, Sino Hydro project manager pledged to offer the best work adding that the partnership between Entebbe Municipality and Changsha city is due to the good relationship between the government of Uganda and the Republic of China.
