MPs wants a team travel to Russian to ascertain the existence of the Joint Stock Company Global Security, a company hired to install trackig system on vehicles.
Parliaments’ committee on Defence and Internal Affairs chaired by Sheema District Woman Representatives Rosemary Nyakikongoro doubts the authenmticity of this company and thus want a team to travel to Russia to establish its legitimacy.
The Joint Stock Company Global Security, a Moscow based company is to install new number plates with unique security features on all government and private vehicles to curb murders, robberies and car thefts.
Officials from the Ministry for Security led by Gen. Jim Muhwezi and officials from the Ministry of works led by Gen. Katumba Wamala have lately been appearing before a joint meeting of the Committees of Defence and Internal Affairs and Physical Infrastructure probing this project.
MPs contend that the trucking system in existence used by the security agencies is enough to trail the criminals rather than duplicating the already existing make it better and save tax-payers money.
They are also concerned that the company is very bankrupt and that it may not do the task.
Nathan Byanyima, the Bukianga North MP (Isingiro district) says a project should be delayed as government digs more into its existence.
He has told the minister to be sympathetic to the country because every deal done has some irregularities. He is also concerned that some innocent people might die in this project as some might be targeted for reason in case they’re trailed following their number-plates.
Minister of Works and Transport Gen Katumba Wamala says this system is a total solution to crimes committed using vehilces and motorbikes. He adds if the system had been installed in motorbikes and vehicles , there wouldn’t be wastage of time searching for the Gunmen who attacked and wounded him leaving his daughter and driver dead.
