The Auditor General, John Muwanga (in featured photo) has raised queries on USD479, 030.12 (about Shs1.78bn) expenditure by Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) to purchase spare parts of Jet Ranger helicopter.
UPDF contracted YAMASEC Ltd to purchase the spare parts, but Auditor General’s team deemed the contract as doubtful after documentation to that effect weren’t provided to auditors for scrutiny.
This revelation is contained in the 2018 audit report to Parliament that is awaiting official tabling today before the Public Accounts Committee summon the UPDF team to provide responses to the raised queries.
The UPDF will also be required to provide evidence towards its fuel consumption that they claimed to have consumed from Hared Petroleum Limited, yet no evidence of the fueling was availed to the auditors during the audit process.
The irregular Patient Referrals to Nakasero Hospital instead of relying on Mulago hospital also rose eyebrows, with auditors wondering why UPDF placed the health of the Country’s army officials in charge of private doctors, instead of the medical team in Uganda’s main referral hospital.
The Auditors also faulted UPDF for making unjustifiable Compensation for land occupied by UPDF at Usuk, Ngariam, Katakwi District as well as unjustifiable Payment to Pajimolugwar clan and Pajimokal clan in respect of land to a tune of Shs1.75bn.
The Force is said to have made another unjustified Payment of Land at JIE Block 4, Plot 21, Nakapirimor, Kotido District at Shs3.3bn and the unjustified Land compensation for Plot 20 Lugard Avenue, Entebbe of Shs575m.
