Amolatar District has received 12,578 doses of COVID-19 Vaccines a week after sending back 7,000 doses which were about to expire.
The new consignment comprises 6,318 doses of Sinovac and 6,260 doses of Sinopharm.
The District, which had a low uptake of vaccines was forced to send back the Moderna vaccines which were expected to expire by December 2021. So far the district has vaccinated 58,192 people.
Dr. Simon Aliga, the acting District Health Officer explained that the district had to distribute its vaccines to other districts before they expire.
Willy Okello, the District’s Cold Chain Technician explained that the uptake is still not good especially among those who are supposed to receive their second dose.
George William Wopua, the Resident District Commissioner says the district is fairly doing well and that the uptake is slowly increasing. He adds that they are using various mobilization measures to get people to vaccinate.
Betty Ochan, and Jasper Okello residents of Awonangiru and Arwotcek sub-counties respectively note that there is a need for the authorities to put in place measures to increase the vaccine uptake.
Given the short lifespan of many of the donations, there have been concerns as districts are finding it difficult to disperse them in good time.
