The wife to Sheikh Yusuf Nyanzi, one of the suspects in the murder of former Police Spokesperson Andrew Felix Kaweesi who was re-arrested three days ago has petitioned the High Court seeking orders compelling security operatives to produce him before courts of law.
Sumayyah Musa Namulindwa contends that on June 15th 2021 her husband Nyanzi and their son Abdu Rahim aged 16 years, while at a mosque near their home in Kyanja Nakawa Division in Kampala District brutally grabbed by police and other armed security officers who dragged them into a waiting drone car and drove to unknown place.
Through her lawyers of Wameli and Company Advocates, Namulindwa says that on June 16th 2021, security operatives brought her husband home for a house search that lasted for about 5 hours before releasing her son whom they brought home on a Boda Boda.
She adds that on Thursday together with her lawyers they went to the Special Investigations Unit in Kireka in search for her missing husband but they were advised to go to CMI Mbuya.
However reaching Mbuya they were reportedly denied access which has prompted her to sue the Attorney General, the Inspector General of Police , the Commandant Special Investigations Directorate Kireka and the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence Mbuya to High Court seeking orders compelling them to produce Nyanzi before Court.
In her affidavit, Namulindwa states that her husband has been held incommunicado beyond 48 hours which violates his constitutional rights including right to liberty.
Nyanzi was first arrested in early 2017 on charges of killing the former Police Spokesperson Andrew Felix Kaweesi, his body guard Kenneth Erau and driver Godfrey Mambewa on 27th March 2017.
But after arraigning him before the International Crimes Division, Nyanzi was charged with the said three counts of murder and belonging to a terrorist group, Allied Democratic Forces.
He was again charged with the murder of Uganda People’s Defense Forces Officer Major Muhammad Kiggundu and his body guard Sargent Steven Mukasa that occurred on November 26th 2016 in Masanafu a Kampala city suburb.
