The Kitende side were without a win in three previous games and pressure had started building around the ambitious club that targets winning the league title this season before Portuguese Jorge Miguel Da Costa’s side turned on the style.

Vipers responded with a hard-earned victory against the newly promoted side that was yet to lose a home game with highly rated Congolese striker Clovis Moussa Mbayi drove in what proved to be the winner on 79 minutes when he came on as a second half substitute. In pre-season,

Mbayi was again the scorer as the teams settled for a 1-1 draw.

Midfielder Yayo Lutimba had the chance to put Vipers in the lead with a long range shot in the 42nd minute but there was little to write home about his fruitless attempt.

The visitors started strongly with Lutimba blasting a free kick wide in the first minute. Ashraf Mandela also attempted a cross that was pushed into the corner in the third minute of play before he was ruled offside five minutes later.

Mandela had another chance going off target in the 19th minute before he paved way in the 35th minute for midfielder Moses Waiswa.

This was a tactical substitute as Tadeo Lwanga was getting exposed so much having received a booking in the 18th minute which will see him miss the next league game.

Da Costa made two crucial substitutes in the second half bringing in Erisa Sekisambu for Baden Mujahid and Mbayi for Yayo Lutimba to have three strikers on the field with Tony Odur staying on.

The changes almost paid off when Tom Masiko’s freekick went just inches over the bar before he missed another tap in from Odur.

Vipers and Onduparaka are tied on 15 points, one behind leaders Police FC who could be overtaken by SC Villa who visit URA FC tomorrow at Namboole.
