Global coffee prices have plunged in recent months
Uganda’s coffee exports in April 2026, totaled to 591,687 60-kilo bags worth US$ 155.54 million (UGX 578.11 billion), Ministry of Agriculture has revealed in its April 2026 report.
This comprised of 463,361 bags of Robusta valued at US$ 107.71 million (UGX 400.33 billion) and 128,326 bags of Arabica valued at US$ 47.83 million (UGX177.78 billion).
According to MAAIF’s report, this was a decrease of 13.9% and 26.7% in quantity and value respectively compared to the same month last year (April 2025).
Robusta decreased by 21.2% and 38.5% in quantity and value respectively while Arabica exports increased by 29.5% and 29.3% in quantity and value respectively compared to the same month last year.
“Robusta coffee export volumes during the month were lower than April 2025. Coffee prices during the month also declined in line with the decrease at the global level due to improved global supply outlook,” the report says.
It further reveals that coffee exports for twelve months (May 2025-April 2026) totaled 8.78 million 60kg bags worth US$ 2.38 billion (UGX 8.6 Trillion) compared to 7.19 million 60kg bags worth US$ 1.94 billion (UGX 7.2 trillion) in the previous year (May 2024 – April 2025).
This represents an increase of 22% and 23% in quantity and value respectively.
Exports by Type and Grade
MAAIF’s report reveals that the average export price was US$ 4.38 per kilogram, US cents 6 higher than March 2026 (US$ 4.32/kilogram).
Robusta exports accounted for 78% of total exports, lower than 85% in March 2026.
The average Robusta price was US$ 3.87 per kilogram, lower than US$ 3.94 per kilogram in March 2026. The highest price was for Organic Robusta sold at US$ 4.55 per kilogram, followed by Screen 17 sold at US$ 4.13 per kilogram. The share of Sustainable/washed coffee to total Robusta exports was 2.1% higher than 1% in March 2026.
The report says Arabica fetched an average price of US$ 6.21 per kilogram US cents 11 lower than the previous month (US$ 6.32).
The highest price was for Mt. Elgon A+ sold at US$ 7.02 per kilogram. It was followed by Mt. Elgon AA sold at US$ 7.01 per kilogram.
Drugar was sold at US$ 6.72 per kilogram, US cents 34 higher than US$ 6.38 per kilogram the previous month, and was 50% of total Arabica exports higher than 39% the previous month. The share of sustainable Arabica exports to total Arabica exports was 13%, lower than 6% in March 2026.
Individual Exporter Performance
According to the report, Export Trading Company (U) Ltd had the highest market share of 14.1% compared to 8.3% in March 2026. It was followed by Kyagalanyi coffee Ltd 13.9% (9%), Ugacof (U) Ltd 8% (12.7%), Ideal Quality Commodities Ltd 7.3% (6.4%), Kawacom (U) Ltd 6.4% (3.6%), Jber Coffee Ltd 5.8% (8.1%), Olam Uganda Ltd 4.8% (8.4%), Louis Dreyfus Company (U) Ltd 3.9% (5.7%), Abbarci Industries Ltd 2.9% (1.8%) and Ibero (U) Ltd 2.7% (2.4%).

The top 10 exporters held a market share of 70% the same as the previous month (March 2026). Out of the 81 exporters who exported, 31 exported both Robusta and Arabica coffee, 26 exported Robusta Coffee only while 24 exported Arabica coffee only.
Coffee Exports By Destination
Italy remained with the highest market share of 19.3% compared to 32.2% last month. It was followed by Germany 10.8% (8.0%), Sudan 9.8% (11.1%), India 8.1% (6.6%) and U.S.A 5.8% (3.4%).
Note: The figures in brackets represent percentage market share held in March 2026. The first 10 major destinations of Uganda coffee took a market share of 73% compared to 81% the previous month.
Coffee exports to African countries totaled 134,125 bags, a market share of 23% compared to 143,342 bags (21%) the previous month. African countries that imported Uganda coffee included; Sudan, Morocco, Algeria, Egypt, South Africa, Tanzania, Kenya, Tunisia, Libya and Madagascar. Europe remained the main destination for Uganda’s coffees with a 52% import share, higher than 62% in March 2026.
Foreign buyers of Uganda Coffee
The top 10 buyers held a market share of 45.9% higher than 54.2% the previous month.
According to the report, Sucafina led with a market share of 8.0% compared to 12.1% in March 2026. It was followed by Koninklijke Douwe Egberts with 6.0% (3.9%), Ecom Agroindustrialist 6.0% (4.2%), Volcafe 5.9% (5.2%), Olam International 5.3% (8.3%), Louis Dreyfus 3.9% (6.1%), ETG Commodities B.V 3.1 (2.0%), Bernhard Rothfos 2.9% (3.0%), Strauss 2.4% (3.3%) and EPE cetrade 2.4%(1.1%). The figures in brackets represent percentage market share held in March 2026.
Global Situation
World coffee production for 2025/26 is forecast to reach a record of 178.8 million bags, 3.5 million bags higher than the previous year, due to continued recovery in Vietnam and record output in Indonesia and Ethiopia, more than compensating for losses in Brazil and Colombia.
World coffee bean exports are forecast 2.3 million bags higher to 123.8 million as gains from Vietnam, Indonesia, and Honduras more than offset losses from Brazil and Colombia.
With global consumption continuing to rise to a record 173.9 million bags, ending stocks are expected to drop for a fifth-consecutive year to just 20.1 million bags. In response, coffee prices as measured by the International Coffee Organization (ICO) monthly composite price index have nearly tripled during this period. Local Situation
According to the report, during the month of April 2026, farm gate prices ranged from UGX 5,500-6,000 per kilogram of Kiboko (Robusta dry cherries); UGX.11,500-12,000 for FAQ (Fair Average Quality); UGX 15,500-16,000 for Arabica Parchment; and UGX 14,000-15,000 per kilogram for Drugar.
Robusta Kiboko averaged UGX 5,750 per kilogram higher than UGX 6,650 per kilogram previous month, Robusta FAQ averaged UGX 11,750 lower than UGX 12,000 per kilogram, Arabica parchment UGX 15,750 per kilogram, higher than UGX 15,500 per kilogram the previous month, Drugar UGX 14,500 per kilogram the same asthe previous month.
Outlook for May 2026
According to MAAIF, Uganda’s Coffee exports are projected to reach 650,000 60- kg bags in May 2026.
“The main harvest season in Greater Masaka and South Western region is at peak,” the report says.
