The Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) has spoken out on the quality of Simba Cement on the Ugandan market.
This follows media reports that the cement is lacking in quality.
In a statement dated January 24, 2019, UNBS said:“Our attention is drawn to information circulating on social media and published by some of the online news media regarding the quality of Simba Cement on the Market.
The Uganda National Bureau Standards (UNBS), as the industry regulator, would like to affirm that Simba Cement is a certified company with two valid certification permits.
All samples so far submitted to UNBS laboratories, as part of our quality monitoring, have passed tests for compliance to the requirements of specific standards.”
UNBS added that it will continue to perform its mandate of enforcing standards to protect consumer health and safety and the environment against dangerous and sub-standard products.
Owned by the National Cement Company, Simba Cement was commissioned by President Yoweri Museveni in August 2018.
Located in Mukujju, Tororo District and owned by Kenyan tycoon Narendra Ravel, the factory directly employs about 300 workers.
