Ugandans Urged To File & Pay Taxes Before End Of June 2021

URA Commissioner General, John Rujoki Musinguzi

With only 15 days left to the end of FY 2020/2021, the Chairperson Kampala City Traders Association – Uganda (KACITA-U) and the Executive Director Uganda Manufacturers Association (UMA), in a uniform voice with Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) have urged all taxpayers to file their returns and pay their due taxes ahead of the 30th of June 2021 deadline.

This joint business advisory message seeks to guide businesses to streamline their tax matters as a safeguard against tax fines that result from tax non-compliance. To that effect, the UMA Executive Director, Mr. Daniel Birungi urged, “…all manufacturers to comply with the requirement to file returns before the 30th June deadline. Tax compliance is not only good for the economy and vital for keeping the wheels of government turning, but also ensures that companies do not suffer undue interruptions to their operations occasioned by sanctions for non-compliance.” Mr. Birungi further committed that, “…UMA teams are on hand to supplement the work of the URA in supporting struggling members to get their tax affairs in order and to ensure that all manufacturers submit their returns in time”

In his guidance to the business community, the Chairperson KACITA, Everest Kayondo said:

“I take this opportunity to urge my fellow Ugandans to file your Tax returns. If you are a registered taxpayer and obliged to file your returns, file your returns in time and pay. This will help you avoid any penalties which could occur just in case you do not file at all. Even if you do not make money, you have to file your returns and let URA know that you didn’t make any profits perhaps because of COVID-19. Only make sure that your filing is on record and that it is timely so that you do not incur unnecessary expenditures.”

30th June 2021 is the deadline for filing and paying Income Tax and failure results in penalties and interest. In this message, URA and its partners seek to enable businesses by facilitating them to mitigate the risk of these penalties and interest.

In line with this message, the URA Commissioner General, John Rujoki Musinguzi committed that, “URA officers in all our stations across the country are ready to support the public in meeting this crucial deadline. In observance of the SOPs for the COVID-19 Pandemic, we encourage our taxpayers to utilize the online services to file returns and make payments via www.ura.go.ug.
