Tumukunde: I’m Tired Of Solitary Confinement

Former Security Minister, Retired Lt Gen Henry Tumukunde (pictured) has told Kampala City Hall court that he is being held in solitary confinement at Luzira prison.

Tumukunde, who appeared for the mention of his Treason case via Video Conferencing today, told the presiding Magistrate Valerian Tuhimbise that apart from the solitary confinement draining him, he is also tired of appearing in court in only one shirt for now close to 2 months.

He argues that he is neither allowed visitors like other prisoners, access to his lawyers   nor medical attention from his private Doctor despite being of advanced age of 61.

However Magistrate Tuhimbise advised Tumukunde’s Lawyers to do whatever it takes to secure their client bail, so that he can have ample time to ably prepare his defence pending trial.

Tumukunde was on March 18, 2020 charged with Treason and Unlawful possession of firearms and remanded to Luzira prison.

On March03, 2020, he declared his Presidential Ambition officially and vowed to stand against President Museveni in the 2021.

Prosecution’s Joseph Kyomuhendo informed court that investigations into this case are still ongoing.

Tumukunde will return to Court on May20, 2020 for the mention of this case, but the High court is expected to rule on his bail application next week on May11, 2020.
