Tian Tang Group has donated items and money worth Shs16m to Chimpanzee Sanctuary and Wildlife Conservation Trust.
Speaking at the event held at Tian Tang Group in Mukono, Mbalala on Friday, Lucy Zhang, the Chief Executive Officer said that as a corporate company, it is their responsibility to be part of saving and conserving nature.
“We have a lot of charity activities in Uganda especially in schools. This is our second consecutive year donating to the Chimpanzee Sanctuary,” she said.
Zhang handed over materials including mattresses, plywood, steel bars among others and a cheque worth Sh5M to Lilly Ajorova, the Executive Director at Chimpanzee Sanctuary and Wildlife Conservation Trust.
Ajorova commended Tian Tang for the support and called upon other corporate companies and individuals to come on board.
“We have raised over Shs50m from similar activities and our needs are beyond cash. We need more materials for accommodation, health and food,” she said.
Ajorova added that chimpanzees are facing instinct and Uganda is among the few countries with 5,000 in population, with Ngaba Island hosting about 49. She says the chimpanzees no longer exist in West and Central Africa.
“Deforestation and poaching are the biggest threats and chimpanzees have reduced in population from 100m in the last 100 years,” she added.
