Thieves Break Into SACCO, Make Off With Shs40M

Unknown thieves have gained access to the premises of SAFINA Saving and credit cooperation in Bukwo district and made off with member’s savings worth Shillings 40million.   The incident happened around 11 pm on Tuesday night.

Samson Lubega, the Bukwo District Police Commander has confirmed the incident, saying that they have already picked up one SAACO member to help police investigations.

According to Lubega, they suspect foul play since there was no forced entry into the Sacco premises.

“We believe there is some syndicate, which was played by SAACO members that we are investigating,” he said.

He says the suspect in police custody was tracked down with the help of the canine.

Joseph Mangusho, one of the Sacco members, says that they had planned to share the money to help them clear the fees for their children.

“We don’t know where to start from because we were supposed to have divided the money on Saturday this week. Now we don’t know where to start from,” he said.

Pricila Chemutai, another member, said that she had hoped to get the money for clearing her gardens for the planting season.

“I have nothing to start with, all my hopes were in that money,” Chemutai said.

Samuel Hashaka Mpimbaza, the Bukwo Resident District Commissioner has asked police to investigate the matter thoroughly and bring the culprits to book.
