SUPERWOMAN: 36 Year Old Gives Birth To Five Healthy Babies In Normal Delivery

Wonders indeed never cease to happen!

In Iganga district, Eastern Uganda, a 36 year old woman has given birth to five children at Iganga Main Hospital.

Asia Mutesi (as seen in the featured photo with the babies), a resident of Kiibaale village, Nabweyo Sub County in Namutumba district gave birth to the bouncing babies on Sunday 25th August at around 10.30 a.m.

Three of the children are female while two are male.

Mutesi expressed shock that she was producing five children yet she had been informed during her six antenatal visits to Namutumba Health Center 1V that she had twins.

“Nurses at Namutumba health center 4 always informed me that I was expecting two children,” she said.

She had earlier in her first delivery in 2013 given birth to three children who are all still alive.

Mutesi said efforts to have another second pregnancy failed till she visited some traditional herbalist who offered some drugs and one month later she underwent a pregnancy test that tested positive.

Her husband, Bilal Mbanya, a peasant farmer in Kiibaale village has appealed to any one with support to offer them assistance since the children require clothing, milk and other necessities he cannot afford.

“Right now I don’t have the money to buy all the necessities that these children require,” he said.

Mbanya said he had gone to buy something to eat from a restaurant outside the hospital and returned only to be informed that his wife had given birth to five children.

“At first I wanted to run away because I don’t have money but because I love my wife, I decided to stay firm and congratulated her upon undergoing the pain,” he said.

A midwife on duty at the maternity ward who spoke on condition of anonymity claiming she is not authorized to do so said the mother gave birth normally without undergoing any operation.

“All the children are in normal health and I highly believe they will survive,” she said.

She said Mutesi developed stomach pains ten minutes before and was rushed to the delivery room where she gave birth to the five children moments later.

The Hospital Administrator Iganga Main Hospital, Ramathan Mugolofa said this is the first time since the hospital was started that a woman is producing five children.

“For over fifty years this hospital has been in existence, we had never had an expectant mother giving birth to five children at once,” he said.

Health personnel in the maternity ward had to block people who wanted to forcefully enter in order to have a view of the woman they had heard gave birth to the five children.
