Kenya last week banned maize from Uganda
Members of Parliament have asked the Government of Uganda to retaliate by banning the importation of Kenya’s agricultural products into the country.
This comes after the Kenyan Government last week banned with immediate effect the importation of maize from Uganda and Tanzania citing an increase in aflatoxins related illnesses.
The matter has been brought to parliament by the Busia Municipality MP, Geofrey Macho, who noted that the East African Community has failed to resolve the issue.
Macho was supported by several MPs who included the Kasambya county MP Gaffa Mbwatekamwa, who said that the integration is no longer feasible and should be abandoned.
The Bukwo woman mp Evelyn Chemutai said that there are several trucks of maize stuck at the border and believes that the integration no longer makes sense.
This has prompted the speaker to demand that the Government gives a statement on the impasse tomorrow.
