Taxpayers are set to part with Shs568.4m for MPs’ medical insurance.
Parliament has already identified four insurance firms for this deal.
In a tender calling for firms to express interest in providing medical insurance services to MPs, six firms expressed interest, but only four firms were successful while two were dropped for failing to meet the contractual requirements.
The successful firms that emerged as best evaluated bidders included; AAR Health Services, International Medical Link, Sanlam Life Insurance Company Limited and IAA.
However, bids of Jubilee Insurance and Case Medicare were rejected having failed at the technical analysis stage during the bid evaluation.
According to the contract, the four firms will charge Shs2Million for MPs above 70years, while MPs below 70years will be charged Shs1.2Million.
However, it isn’t yet clear if the funds will be charged annually or monthly.
Records from Parliament indicate that the current Parliament has 457MPs and of these, 25 MPs including ex-officios will consume Shs50M, while the rest of the 432MPs will account for Shs518.4m, thus bringing the total expenditure to Shs568.4m.
