The Appointments Committee of Parliament is set to decide the fate of Justine Bagyenda’ reappointment to the Financial Intelligence Authority (FIA) Board, Business Focus has learnt.
The Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Matia Kasaija in May this year nominated Bagyenda (in featured photo), the former Executive Director-Supervision at Bank of Uganda (BoU) to serve a second term as a member on the FIA board yet ‘the iron lady’ as she was/is known at BoU was at the centre of controversies and investigations regarding her alleged illicit wealth.
Ugandans including MPs were shocked by the news of Bagyenda’s proposed reappointment to FIA board, wondering whether the Finance Minister follows events in the country keenly.
MPs on Parliament’s vetting committee vowed to block Bagyenda’s reappointment.
According to a letter dated September 12, 2018 authored by the Clerk to Parliament, Jane Kibirige to MPs on the Appointments Committee, Bagyenda’s fate will be determined today Monday September 17, 2018.
Acoording to the letter, the MPs will vet the following Presidential nominees on FIA board; Leo Kibirango (Chairman), Patrick Ocailap, Justine Bagyenda, Grace Akullo and Patricia Mutesi.
The Committee will also vet Jane Okuo Kajuga and Dr. Patricia Achan Okiria as Commissioners at Human Rights Commission.
Rose Kabogoza Musoke will also be vetted as a Member on the Education Service Commission.
