NWSC Shines At The Digital Impact Awards 2019

After releasing the nomination list following a comprehensive validation process that started from 6th June to 10th July 2019, the 6th Digital Impact Awards Africa reached a climax last Friday at a grand ceremony to recognize the winners held at Mestil Hotel in Kampala.

Organized by HIPIPO, the categories of the winners ranged from telecommunication firms, banking institutions, e-commerce sites, government institutions among others. The Awards aim at recognizing, celebrating and appreciating different individuals and organizations that are spearheading the use of digital mediums to better serve their communities.

Speaking at the event, Innocent Kawooya, the CEO of HiPipo Limited said that the awards are aimed at recognizing and rewarding individuals and organisations across Africa that are spearheading the use of digital tools.

“The awards recognize organizations and individuals that have enhanced financial and digital inclusion and those leading to continental economic transformation in Africa,” he said.

This year’s awards were held under the theme “include everyone.” Kawooya explained that everyone means the young, the old, the rural, educated and non-educated and that digital technology is one way through which everyone can be reached and included.

National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) won 3 top awards including the Best Digital Customer Service, Best Digital Customer Experience (Utilies) and Best E-Service/E-Commerce (Silver).

According to NWSC Board Chairman Dr. Eng. Christopher Ebal, the awards showcase the corporation’s excellence in service delivery as demonstrated by its outstanding initiatives, impact of work and inspiration to others.

Maggie Kigozi, president of the Business and Professional Women Uganda and a consultant at the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, who was the guest of honour said if Uganda is to achieve economic development more faster, there is need to embrace digital technology and innovation.
