President Yoweri Museveni is unhappy with the striking doctors, noting that they betrayed him-for he had told them his plan to resolve their issues.
Museveni made while addressed a rally at Karambi Sub-county Grounds in Burahya Constituency, Kabarole District on Thursday.
“I thank the medical officers in Kabarole for not joining the strike. The striking doctors betrayed me because I told them that my plan is to concentrate scarce resources in the most needed areas,” Museveni said.
He added: “My proposal is that scientists, doctors inclusive, should be the first to benefit from salary enhancement. A report of the Salary Review Commission on pay harmonisation will be ready end of this month. We shall then look at implementation. The strike is uncalled for.”
The meeting was organized by area Woman MP, Margaret Muhanga.
The President noted that there are many lies spread on radios, accusing the government of doing nothing.
He reminded the people about some of the things the NRM government has achieved.
Peace: The people of Fort Portal can testify about this. You saw how we defeated the ADF rebels and this sub-region is now peaceful.
Democracy: We have restored democracy. There is freedom of speech and interaction. Even in this debate of amending the Constitution, everyone should have the freedom to debate.
Development: This we have been able to do through prioritisation. It is how we built the Fort Portal-Bundibugyo road, among the other many government projects.
