Lt Gen Tumukunde Remanded To Luzira Prison

Presidential hopeful Lt General (rtd) Henry Tumukunde has been remanded to Luzira prison after being charged with treason.

The said charges were formally read to Tumukunde at the City Hall court in Kampala. He was also charged with illegal possession of firearms.

He was arrested last week at his home in Kololo, an upscale Kampala suburb.

His arrest came on the heels of his announcement to vie for the presidency.

Tumukunde, a former spy chief, recently revealed that he would traverse the country, consulting Ugandans on his presidential ambitions.

Following his announcement, he was arrested a week later. He has been remanded until 23rd March.

Some of his relatives and friends at the court were overhead wondering why the state was treating Tumukunde this way yet he served the nation.

Some have been claiming that he is being caged because of his presidential ambitions although the state says he made treasonous utterances on a local television when he asked Rwanda to support regime change in Uganda.

He had previously served as security minister until 2018 when the president dropped him.
