Proscovia Suubi Nantongo, a lecturer at Kyambogo University has died under mysterious circumstances. She breathed her last at Karenga Health Centre IV on Monday following her admission in critical condition.
Details of her health condition prior to the admission are scanty. The Kidepo Regional Criminal Investigations Department Officer, Bosco Gume, says that they have opened inquiries to establish circumstances surrounding Nantongo’s death.
He says that they have sent samples from the deceased to Uganda Virus Research Institute for further investigations.
Nantongo, who has been lecturing in the Faculty of Special Needs & Rehabilitation had traveled from Kampala to Karenga with the Napore Member of Parliament, Lokwang Ilukol. The two arrived last week and the purpose of her journey remains unclear.
Abim Resident District Commissioner, Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka, says that they are yet to establish the purpose of the lecturer’s visit. “You know there is a lock-down and people are not allowed to travel from one district to another. By the time we learnt about her death, the purpose of her visit was unknown,” he said.
Phillips Lokwang Ilukol declined to comment on the matter, saying it is still under investigation. Kyambogo University has not yet commented on the matter.
