KCCA Eases Past Resilient Madagascar Side

KCCA 1-0 CNaPS (KCCA advance on away goals rule after 2-2 aggregate draw)

Paul Mucurezi earned the precious goal KCCA FC yearned for all evening to progress into the first round of the CAF Champions League. KCCA beat resilient Madagascar side CNaPS 1-0 in an intense game at the StarTimes Stadium Lugogo.

KCCA came into the game needing to score to advance on away goals rule after losing the first leg, 2-1. This is what Nsibambi exactly delivered when the game looked destined for a goalless draw.

An exciting opening half saw both sides exchange chances but neither opportunity was utilized. On resumption, KCCA pushed for a goal and it came through Mucurezi’s header in the 74th minute to ease the pressure on manager Mike Mutebi.

KCCA will now play Ethiopia’s St George next month in another mid-week clash.

Work to do

The win will probably overshadow the team’s deficiencies especially in attack and ball retention as CNaPS gave KCCA some homework.

The team will continue to be tested with much stronger challengers but the league champions are seemingly trying to come to terms with the departures of goal keeper Benjamin Ochan, Isaac Muleme and Geoffrey Sserunkuma’s who were crucial in last season’s adventure  that almost saw the team earn a place in the CAF Confederation Cup group stages.

Actually, the transfer activity in January which destabilized KCCA so much as another new found striker, Tito Okello went AWOL.
