Thieves have broken into the cyber unit offices of the Internal Security Organisation (ISO) in Uganda and reportedly made off with a hard disk containing information on the some of the country’s high profile murders.
According to reports, the thugs who identity is yet to be established, late last month managed to gain access to ISO’s cyber unit offices on Mawanda road on the outskirts of the capital, Kampala.
The reports add that the stolen files contain information relating to the murder of slain ex-police spokesperson, Andrew Felix Kaweesi and murdered Prosecutor, Joan Kagezi.
ISO is charged with gathering intelligence in the country for use by policy makers in matters of national interest.
The spy agency’s boss, Col Frank Bagyenda Kaka, has since downplayed the significance of the heist saying the drive in question did not contain sensitive information as stated in various reports.
Sources close to the investigators reveal that top agency bosses believe it could have been an “inside job” and that one person has already been apprehended.
