The Ministry of finance has released Shs2 billion out of the Shs6 billion needed by FUFA to participate in the next years under 23 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
This comes after FUFA President Moses Magogo (pictured) on Monday through his twitter account threatened to withdraw the team from tournament due to absence of funds.
While appearing before parliaments Adhoc committee that is investigating the usage of funds in the sports sector, the State Minister for Planning, Amos Lugoloobi informed MPs that they have received a request from FUFA of Shs6 billion to participate in the competition.
Lugoloobi further told MPs that the government has committed to meet the cost with 2 billion shillings already released and says that the rest of the funds will be received in January when the funds for the third quarter have been released.
He also informed parliament that it’s time the country prioritized certain sports to ensure the country becomes more successful, saying that the country is incapable of funding all sports activities in the country.
