Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) has reminded passengers arriving at Entebbe International Airport that it’s no longer a requirement to present a COVID-19 certificate.

“Passengers through Entebbe International Airport are reminded that   the requirement for COVID-19 certificates for arriving passengers was dropped (no longer relevant), effective March 7, 2023. For departing passengers, it is only applied when the destination country requires it,” Vianney M. Luggya, the UCAA Spokesman said via his official twitter handle.

Uganda registered a total of 170,558 Corona virus cases,  100,431 recoveries and 3,630 deaths.

The Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) has revealed that the total number of arriving and departing passengers was 1,574,405 in 2022, compared to 941,688 in 2021.

It should be noted that COVID-19 adversely affected the aviation industry as countries across the world announced  lockdowns to curb the spread of the virus.

After the lifting of the lockdown, Entebbe International Airport is increasingly getting more passenger numbers.

According to UCAA, 565,541 passengers were recorded  in 2020 due to travel restrictions. In 2019 before COVID-19 struck, Entebbe Airport recorded 1,802,107 passengers.

“The post COVID-19 recovery is at 87%,” UCAA’s Luggya said recently .

He adds that the airport recorded a total cargo of 61,066 tonnes in 2022 compared to 64,172 tones in 2021. 59,720 tonnes of cargo were recorded in 2020 and 64,701 tonnes in 2019.

“There are more exports than imports,” Luggya said, adding that the airport recorded 5,014 metric tonnes (imports 1,752 and exports 3,262) in January 2023.

According to UCAA,  Entebbe International Airport recorded 149,375 passengers in January 2023  (72,934 arriving and 76,441 departing passengers), an average of 4,818 per day,  compared to a total of 110,547 passengers in the same period of January 2022.

In December 2022, the airport recorded 156,790 passengers compared to 123,576 in the same period of December  2021.
