Bilal Islamic School Temporarily Closed, Parents Stuck At The Gate

Parents anxiously waiting to be allowed inside Bilal Islamic Schools following the night fire

Bilal Islamic Primary and Secondary School in Bwaise has temporally closed following a fire outbreak at the school premises last night.

According to information pinned at the school gate, management has asked day scholars to stay home and return on Wednesday while those in Senior one and two have been asked to return next week.

Sources say the fire gutted one of the boy’s dormitories shortly after 8 pm when the learners were attending evening preps. No casualties have been reported.  The closure of the school has left parents stranded at the gate.

Muhammad Bakasambe, a father of seven is one of the parents stuck at the entrance. He says that information from the school shows that four of his children are safe but he is yet to know about the others.

Another parent only identified as Sa’adah, says that she rushed to the school around 11 pm and left at midnight when management asked them to leave and return this morning. She explains that her son is a resident in one of the affected dormitories.

Abdul Hamid Kibuule, another parent thanked God that there were no casualties. He, however, says that for now, they would like to see their children.

The fire at Bilal Islamic S.S located in Bwaise in Kawempe Division comes after recent reports that the school has registered a surge in student enrolment. It reported that the student registered an overwhelming number of learners for the new term.

Security has been deployed at the school gate as investigations into the fire continue.
