Milk Prices Drop In Eastern Region As Retailers In Mid Western Enjoy Shs 400 Increase On A Litre

Milk prices in the Eastern Region of Uganda have dropped.

The reason for this drop has not been explained.

The June 2024 data obtained from the Dairy Development Authority (DDA) indicates that farm gate prices dropped by Shs 224 from Shs 1, 231.

At the retail points, prices dropped by Shs 349 from Shs 1,641. In the northern region, prices dropped by Shs 200 at the farm gate from Shs 1,200. However, prices at the retail points remain at Shs 2, 000.

In the South West, prices at the farm gate increased by Shs 219 from Shs 887, while prices at the retail points went up to Shs 1,542. In the Central Region, prices at farm gates increased by Shs 100. At the retail points, prices increased by Shs 200 to Shs 2,200. In the North East, farm gate prices went up by Shs 30 to Shs 1,430. At retail pints, a liter of milk now goes for Shs 2, 000 up from Shs 1,990. In the Mid Western region, prices at farm gates increased to Shs 975 up from Shs 875, while prices went up to Shs 2,400 at retail points, up from Shs 2, 000. In comparison to May 2024, milk prices in Mid Western were barely selling at Shs 850 per liter.

At retail points, milk prices per liter dropped by Shs 200 to Shs 1,600. The Northern Region had a drop at the farm gate (by Shs 50 to Shs 1,400). In the South West, prices dropped to Shs 668 by Shs 44, while retail prices went up to about Shs 1,990.
