The Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) is worried that farmers may fail to plant cotton over seeds supply issues.
Former MAAIF Minister, Vincent Ssempijja made the revelation recently while handing over office to his successor, Frank Tumwebaze .
“Cotton may have problems because the private sector is incapacitated,” Ssempijja said.
Previously, the private sector has funded the procurement of seeds.
However, following the Covid-19 outbreak, they have failed to provide funding.
Ssempijja said he wrote to the President about the matter but by the time of the handover, he was yet to get a response.
As such, he tasked the Permanent Secretary, Pius Wakabi, to follow up the matter.
Ssempijja, who is the Minister of Defense and Veterans Affairs, pledged to work with his former ministry on issues that cut across the two government ministries.
