President Yoweri Museveni has tasked security agencies to expeditiously find the killers of his ‘yellow man’ Ibrahim Abiriga.
The Arua Municipality MP was brutally shot dead this evening at Kawanda along Kampala-Gulu Highway by unknown assailants. Abiriga, 62, was driving his yellow beattle (Volkswagen). He has been shot dead with his bodyguard.
“I have received news about the senseless killing of Arua Municipality MP, Hon Ibrahim Abiriga, and his bodyguard on the city’s outskirts. I have tasked security agencies to expeditiously find these killers and the nation will be updated soon. May Hon Abiriga’s soul rest in peace.” Museveni said on his official twitter handle.
Any eye witness said Abiriga was a resident of Kawanda and was popular among the locals including children. The lawmaker was also popular among children for he occasionally gave them money. He was gunned down near Bridge International, an eye witness said.
Abiriga strongly supported the lifting of the Presidential age limits. He was popular for his yellow colour.
A number of Ugandans across the political divide took to social media, condemning the brutal murder of Abiriga.

Security systems are clearly dysfunctional. A new start necessary. My thoughts &prayers go to Hon Abiriga’s family, relatives &friends. Inna lillahi wa inna illahi raj’un.”
