“60 Acts of Kindness”: dfcu Bank Staff Celebrate 60th Anniversary Through Community Outreach Programs

dfcu Bank has reaffirmed its commitment to transforming lives, businesses, and communities across Uganda through its “60 Acts of Kindness”  staff campaign with all the Bank’s staff around the country taking part in a series of corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives funded by both individual staff and bank contributions. This campaign is part of dfcu Bank’s celebration of its 60-year legacy as a Ugandan bank that has played a significant role in the socioeconomic development of the country, since its origins as a development finance institution.

From May 2024, the Bank’s employees have actively participated in numerous community-impact activities, demonstrating the bank’s commitment to uplifting vulnerable communities and addressing pressing social needs.

As part of its community outreach efforts, dfcu has held several activities across a spectrum of pillars such as maternal healthcare, child welfare and social impact.

In partnership with the Uganda Red Cross Society, dfcu’s staff team organized and held a blood donation drive at the Bank’s Head Office in Nakasero. The drive which attracted customer and staff participation facilitated the collection of 83 units of blood to support the Uganda Blood Transfusion Service. Currently, Uganda requires a minimum daily requirement of 1,500 units of blood necessary to save accident victims, birthing mothers, anaemic children, and cancer paints, but figures show that the amount available at any given time is below this.

This marked the second time that the Bank has partnered with Uganda Red Cross Society to hold blood donation initiatives.

At Afaayo Child Health Education and Rehabilitation Unit (ACHERU), the dfcu staff team donated hospital beds, mattresses, duvets, soap, and food items including sugar, rice and posho. The organization rehabilitates children with physical and mental disabilities. Afaayo, which translates to “He/God Cares” in Luganda, offers a home to children who have been shunned or neglected due to physical impairments. Over the years, the home has enabled the treatment for thousands of children, giving them new lease on life.

Commenting on the purpose of the CSR initiatives, Charles Mudiwa,  CEO of dfcu Bank, said “At dfcu, our mission goes beyond financial services. We are dedicated to actively engaging with the communities we serve, working hand-in-hand with local organizations to address their most pressing needs and contribute to their growth and prosperity.”

dfcu’s 60 Acts of Kindness campaign is important because our employees are at the heart of our community outreach efforts. We are keen on fostering a culture of giving back and making a tangible difference in the lives of those around us, in celebration of a six-decade legacy and in gratitude to the Ugandans who are the reason for our continued and successful existence.”

By collaborating with multiple local leaders, communities, organisations and groups, dfcu Bank is addressing critical issues and supporting initiatives that align with the company’s values and vision for transformed communities.
