Kyadondo East lawmaker, Robert Kyagulanyi has joined calls for the immediate release of Makerere University Don, Stella Nyanzi.
Bobi Wine made this call on Tuesday through his Facebook page urging all to stand with her now when her ‘rights are being violated.
“Dr. Stella Nyanzi was arrested by CID detectives on Friday last week. To date, she has not been produced before any court. She is being detained illegally by the police, way beyond the 48 hours requirement. This has become a norm and we must raise voices against it,” Bobi Wine posted.
He added, “We demand that the authorities produce her before court so that she has an opportunity to defend herself against any charges they may have against her, or that she is set free. Dr. Stella has always stood with pro-democracy activists whenever our rights have been violated. It is only right and proper that we stand with her when her rights are being violated.”
Nyanzi was arrested last week on allegations that she abused President Museveni and his deceased mother.
Dr Nyanzi was arrested at Makerere University on Friday and driven to Special Investigations Division headquarters at Kireka where she is currently detained. She was holding a silent strike at Makerere after the university management failed to restore to her office despite the court ruling.
The CID spokes person, Superintendent of Police Vincent Ssekatte confirmed the arrest of Dr Nyanzi.
