World Bank: COVID-19 Has ‘Reversed A Decade Of Growth In Africa’

Africa’s economy may rebound next year

The World Bank says the coronavirus pandemic has reversed a decade of hard-won growth in Africa and could lead to a 3.3% contraction of its economy in 2020.

But the bank predicted that growth would rebound next year.

Africa has so far escaped the worst of the pandemic, with rates of infections lower than in most other continents.

But lockdowns enforced to reduce the spread of the disease have led to recessions in many countries, notably South Africa, the second biggest economy.

The World Bank warned that as many as 40 million Africans could be driven into extreme poverty.
