Farmers from West Nile region under West Nile Cooperative Union will have an opportunity to get affordable housing units after the Union entered into a partnership with East of Eden (U) Ltd, a private firm set to invest in the region in areas of housing and other infrastructures.

The firm with African and European partners has a mission of helping the ordinary people to have access to afford houses.

During a recent meeting, the East of Eden welcomed the opportunity to collaborate with the West Nile Cooperative Union to construct a minimum of 65,000 housing units in the West Nile region, provided by an enabling environment.

“We are excited about the collaboration because the Union has demonstrated the leadership to mobilize the land resources and farmers effectively making it easier for us to collaborate here in West Nile region after thorough consultations and analysis,”  East of Eden Chairperson,  Sandra Zawedde said.

The office of Arua City clerk, Physical planning board and office of the RDC Terego District welcomed East of Eden in the region and pledged total support for the success of the project brought by the firm.

The farmers were impressed with East of Eden’s ability to implement the affordable housing project of 65,000 sustainable and quality houses in the region.

West Nile Cooperative Union is comprised of 23 society groups across the region with over 19,000 acres of titled land.

The East of Eden team also met Dridria Plato (80 years old), the only surviving founders of West Nile Cooperative Union from Terego District.

The farmers thanked the firm for responding to the need and for providing housing solutions, confirming that they have vast land as a Union, but needed financial resources to invest in the land.

The farmers urged East of Eden to expedite all necessary arrangements so that the construction works on the land can begin as soon as possible.
