The Minister of Local Government, Tom Butime has said that the problem of rural-urban migration can majorly be solved by urbanizing the rural areas, revealing that his Ministry has embarked on a deliberate strategy to urbanise rural areas so as to attract development and increase revenue collection.
“If we create an environment upcountry that provides jobs there, the youth will remain there working and not come to the crowded Kampala,” Butime said.
The Minister made the remarks while meeting District Chairpersons and Municipal Mayors at Hotel Africana on Monday 8th July 2019
He urged district chairpersons and mayors to engage in wealth creation by supporting investments, renovations, market infrastructure and road infrastructure in their localities, adding that parliament approved funding for the Economic Growth Support Project aimed at supporting agricultural productivity, microfinance, water supply and irrigation to be implemented in 17 districts.
“Mobilize and inspire people to a progressive cause if society is to take a step forward.
