The Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB) is slated to release the Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) next week, something that is likely to end anxiety among students and parents following delays to do the same.
The revelation was made by Hamson Obua, Government Chief Whip during the plenary sitting while responding to a concern raised by Ronald Afidra (Lower Madi) who tasked the Ministry of Education and Sports to explain why the release of the results was postponed last week without any explanation given to stakeholders.
Afidra asked, “Could the Minister release information when these results will come up because parents are expectant and soon schools will be beginning and there will be pressure on parents to look for schools for their children the more they delay.”
Obua informed Parliament that the officials from UNEB are slated to meet with officials of Ministry of Education, a ,meeting he says will determine when the PLE results will be released noting, “I consulted with the Secretary of Uganda National Examinations Board, the date and day on the release of PLE hasn’t been set. UNEB is set to internally brief the Ministry of Education and Sports tomorrow, it is in that meeting according to the Secretary where the day and date will be set for the release of PLE but he also stated that most likely before end of this week.
It should be recalled that PLE candidates sat for the National leaving examinations on 8th and 9th November 2022 with UNEB announcing that a total of 832,810 Candidates were expected to sit for their exams from 14,153 examination Centres.
This is an increase of 82,999 (11.1%) from 2020.61 of these candidates are inmates from Upper Prison School Luzira. 51.9% (432,618) of the total candidature are females while 48.1% (400,192) are males. 70.1% (583,769) are funded under the Universal Primary Education (UPE) Program, while 29.9% (249,041) are non–UPE candidates.
The Board also revealed that 2,316 candidates were registered to have Special Needs Education (SNE) requirements. This is an increase of 717 Candidates (44.8%).
