Uncertainty Of School Reopening Worries Scholastic Dealers In Kampala

Following the increase in the number of covid-19 cases, dealers in scholastic materials are worried over reports that schools may not reopen.

For close to two years, schools have been closed following the outbreak of covid-19. Last week, the Ministry of Education announced that schools will reopen on January 10. However, due to the increasing number of Covid -19 cases, there is fear that the schools will not reopen.

Henry Nganda a dealer in scholastic materials on Nasser Road says that he is not yet excited about the reopening since the covid-19 cases are increasing. He says that if the schools are not reopened, it will be a blow to their businesses.

Godfrey Mukasa says that at this time, parents and schools would be buying scholastic materials which isn’t the case.

But Barbra Sango of Sango Stationers along Nasser road is excited about schools reopening with the hope that they will make up for the last two years when the business has been low.

Amos Turyahabwe, from Kikuubo, says he is worried about the surge of new Covid-19 cases which he says could affect the reopening of schools. He however says that he has stocked should there be no disruptions.

Fred Kalibbala, another dealer mentioned he holds onto his faith in God that schools reopen and he gets clients for his stationery as he has waited for too long.

Brian Ssengendo, a parent says buying scholastic material early is cheaper as he expects prices to increase. He adds that even if schools remain closed parents should not lose hope.

Another parent Sarah Namatovu says she is hopeful that the President will honor his word and reopen schools on January 10. Namatovu says that she limited spending too much money on Christmas celebrations to enable her to buy scholastic materials.
