URA’s Assistant Commissioner, Public and Corporate Affairs, Robert Kalumba
The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has spoken out on inaccurate posts making the rounds on social media.
In the posts, the proponents of the inaccuracy suggest that one will in the near future need to pay school fees through EFRIS, an e-receipting an invoicing solution of the URA.
The Assistant Commissioner, Public and Corporate Affairs, Robert Kalumba, says in a statement on Sunday evening that “what is making the rounds on social media is not exactly true.”
“This is still a proposal in the new education policy that hasn’t been passed yet and therefore is not law. Also, payment of fees will only be through the URA system as NTR (non-tax revenue). This process does not require one to have a TIN,” Kalumba clarifies.
Like it is the case with universities, Kalumba adds that the student will simply need a unique identifier to raise a PRN.
“For example, Makerere University students pay tuition fees through the URA portal using student numbers as a unique identifier to raise a PRN. This is classified as NTR. Neither the student nor the parent need a TIN or need to use EFRIS,” said Kalumba. “It’s therefore not true that fees will be paid through EFRIS and that every student or parent requires a TIN to pay tuition.”
Kalumba urged the public to remain calm and that once the policy comes to pass, the public will get to know through formal channels of communication.
