Quantum School Of Computing Moves To Transform Agriculture & Bridge Gender Gap In Tech

Quantum School Of Computing officials

The Quantum School of Computing, Artificial Intelligence, and Robotics has been launched alongside two transformative initiatives aimed at revolutionizing Uganda’s agricultural sector and addressing the gender disparity in the ICT workforce.

The introduction of Sky-Harvest Uganda and the Her Code Her Future Foundation marks a significant step toward leveraging advanced technologies for societal progress.

“At the Quantum School, we believe in the power of technology to solve societal challenges. Sky-Harvest Uganda will transform agriculture, and Her Code Her Future will empower women to take their rightful place in Uganda’s ICT workforce. Together, these initiatives will drive progress, equity, and sustainability,” said Prof. Robert Steven Owor, Executive Director, Center for Innovation and Emerging Technologies, Albany State University.

Sky-Harvest Uganda: Modernizing Agriculture with AI and Blockchain

Sky-Harvest Uganda is designed to harness the power of NASA’s satellite data and Sky-Harvest Blockchain technology to modernize agriculture.

This initiative provides farmers with real-time insights into critical factors such as rainfall patterns, soil health, temperature fluctuations, and pest activity. These insights will enable data-driven decision-making, leading to increased yields, optimized resource usage, and greater resilience against climate change.

Additionally, the integration of Sky-Harvest Blockchain technology ensures transparency and traceability in the agricultural value chain. Features such as smart contracts will streamline transactions between farmers and buyers, while blockchain-based tools will facilitate access to credit, insurance, and broader markets, fostering financial inclusion for rural farmers.

Her Code Her Future Foundation: Empowering Women in Tech

The Her Code Her Future Foundation is a groundbreaking initiative committed to increasing female participation in Uganda’s ICT sector, where women currently account for only 18% of the workforce.

By equipping women and girls with the necessary skills and opportunities, the foundation aims to create an inclusive digital future where women actively contribute to shaping technological advancements.

Speaking at the press conference, Ethel Mwebaza, spokesperson for the Her Code Her Future Foundation, expressed her passion for the initiative. She said:

“Our work today is not just about technology—it’s about creating opportunities, changing lives, and shaping the future. Through the power of AI education, we are unlocking new potential that will reverberate far beyond this moment.”

The foundation’s mission is to provide inclusive, immersive AI education, ensuring students—especially young women—are equipped with the skills and confidence to excel in an increasingly digital world.

AI is transforming industries at an unprecedented pace, making it critical for women and girls to have access to education that prepares them for the jobs of tomorrow.

“AI skills are no longer a luxury; they are an essential part of the workforce of the future. Through the Her Code Her Future Foundation, we are committed to ensuring that communities—particularly women and girls—are not left behind,” Mwebaza said.

With continued collaboration and investment in AI education and blockchain solutions, Uganda stands on the cusp of a tech-driven revolution that promises prosperity, equality, and resilience for future generations.

Professor Owor revealed that $30 million (UGX 110.6 billion) will be invested to bring these projects to life.
