The year 2018 began with a reassuring gun action against robbers by the police following a foiled robbery at Azam Factory in Namanve.
The three robbers identified as Akampa Jimmy, Bwakya M. Roben and Ibrahim never lived to smell the scent of the new year at the hand of Bweyogerere Police together with Flying Squad Kampala team.
Police was tipped off 3 weeks back by a trusted source about the intended robbery given the security leaks within in the multibillion Azam Group of Companies which prompted an intelligence based tracking and trailing of the thugs.
An inside source revealed that the thugs had taken note of the weak deployment pattern by G4S Security Company that deploys over 20 unarmed security guards & the dummy security surveillance cameras installed around the premises.
It’s believed that the robbers’ target was the employee payment exercise and product purchase by some clients that were intended to commence later that evening.
The area police swung into action and was able to give a brave chase at the thugs who defensively retaliated by shooting back however were overpowered, shot on spot and their bodies taken to Mulago Hospital Mortuary for postmortem.
Among the recovered items are an SMG gun with 24 rounds of ammunition and two Bajaj motorcycles.
According to OC. Bweyogerere Police Station ASP. Karim Magid, this engagement was warning message and a reminder to all the criminals that Bweyogerere is a no go zone this 2018.
