Pebuu to accelerate agent banking across West Africa as CEO John Paul Ssemyalo (Left) meets Kezia Owusu-Ansah of Templars Ghana in Accra to discuss legal pathways for expansion.
Pebuu Africa, a leading provider of technology-enabled field management solutions, has officially expanded its operations into West Africa, marking its entry into Nigeria, Ghana, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
This strategic move represents a significant step in advancing the company’s mission to transform last-mile delivery and broaden access to financial services across Africa.
With an already robust presence in Uganda and the United States, Pebuu’s expansion into West Africa strengthens its footprint in key high-growth African economies. While Ghana and Nigeria have been experiencing rapid growth in digital finance and financial inclusion, numerous communities remain underbanked.
In Nigeria alone, over 20 million people, mostly in rural and low-income settings lack adequate access to formal financial services.
The situation in the DRC presents even greater complexity, as the region currently faces unique challenges, including ongoing conflict, language barriers, limited infrastructure, and a predominantly francophone environment.
Pebuu’s entry into DRC is a bold testament to the versatility of its tools and the resilience of its continental expansion strategies.
It also highlights its commitment to bridging financial inclusion gaps and introducing adaptive, innovative solutions across diverse linguistic and socio-economic landsacpes, reinforcing its mission to create opportunities and smiles across the continent.
In all three countries, agent banking is seen as a powerful driver in expediting financial inclusion.
Pebuu’s presence in these markets demonstrates its dedication to empowering agents and merchants and advancing digitized last-mile distribution in underserved communities and remote areas.
“This expansion is not just about growth — it’s about impact,” said Mr. John Paul Ssemyalo, CEO at Pebuu Africa. “We are passionate about building accessible systems that empower local communities and accelerate economic inclusion through technology despite the challenges within these markets.”
Pebuu offers smart tools for agent and merchant management, supply chain tracking, and field management service operations through its proprietary technology platforms like FieldPecker.
In Uganda, Pebuu manages more than 30,000 bank agents and merchants’ networks, collectively serving 18 million customers in 2024.
As networks expand, Pebuu continues to play a critical role in enabling financial service providers to scale operations, ensure bank agents and merchants’ compliance with financial regulations and customer protection. It also enables the agents and merchants to grow their businesses.
Pebuu’s expansion into the West African key markets will center on strengthening banking and merchant service ecosystems, supporting last-mile delivery of essential goods and services, and enhancing access to digital financial services in hard-to-reach communities within these regions.
Pebuu’s regional model, backed by real-time field monitoring technology, will also facilitate deeper collaborations and partnerships with financial institutions, telecom operators, and government-led development programs across these new markets.
As Pebuu embarks on this new chapter in Nigeria, Ghana, and the DRC, the company pledges to continue working closely with local stakeholders and communities, taking into consideration their diverse social and cultural landscape, to build scalable and inclusive systems that serve Africa’s growing digital economy.
