Parliament Considers Sitting On Weekends To Finish Business

Parliament is considering sitting on weekends to enable the 10th parliament  complete business before the the swearing in of the 11th parliament in May this year.

The move is aimed at finishing the remaining bills and business which include the Budget Framework paper, ministerial policies, bills as well as approval and passing of the 2021/22 financial year budget.

It’s from this that the Deputy Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oulanya appealed to the Business Committee of Parliament to consider rescheduling of parliamentary sittings so as the 10th parliament can handle and complete businesses before 15th –May this year.

Government chief-whip Ruth Nankabirwa added on proposing that parliament should request MPs to change their schedules and start working on Monday and Friday.

Parliamentary plenaries always sit from Tuesday to Thursday and committees every Monday to Friday mornings unless there’s an emergency.
