NWSC To Set Up Three Training Facilities

The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) plans to set up three training facilities across the country to boost skills of its staff.

The revelation was made by NWSC Executive Director, Dr. Silver Mugisha yesterday during the graduation of some of the staff that took part in the re-skilling training at Gaaba Water Treatment plant in Kampala.

“For an institution that is growing like NWSC, you can’t grow sustainably without continuously training the people. We have trained about 1000 people and we think this is not enough because we have more than 3000 people. We are thinking of adding more training outlets in North, West. Gone will be days of seeing 300 people graduate, but 2000 people at once because the speed at which we are moving isn’t enough,” Mugisha said.

Rose Kagwa, Director Business and Scientific Services at NWSC revealed that the latest graduation attracted 323 graduates including 168 industrial plumbers, 35 electrical mechanical technicians, 102 customer service advisors, 18 industrial plumbers with level three diploma.

Mugisha defended the establishment of the institution saying the Corporation has grown in the last five years which has created room to grow the capacity of its staff.

“You can see that the number at which we are increasing technicians is higher than the rate at which we are training them, so we want to increase the number of training institutions so that we increase capacity to train our people because skills are changing, we have new plumbing techniques and if we don’t continuously train our people in the real world of action, we shall have a problem,” he said.
