Namboole Stadium Finally Defeats Encroachers, Gets Three Land Titles

Mandela National Stadium commonly referred to as Namboole Stadium has received three land titles from the Ministry of Lands and Urban Development after years of battles with encroachers.

The titles were yesterday handed over to the ministry of education and sports as and the management of the stadium.

On receiving the titles on behalf of government and management of the stadium, state minister for sports, Denis Obua Hamson referred the handover of the titles as historic, adding that this is evidence that the country and shareholders have conclusive ownership of the facility.

Obua who saluted the land commission and education ministry officials for the job well done then turned to the stadium management to ensure that it jealously protects the land from encroachers and land grabbers.

The permanent secretary ministry of education and sports, James Kakooza confirmed that they are now going to embark on short, medium and long term phased renovation of the facility which has for long been halted due to the absence of land titles.

Among the renovations to be done include, pitch, dressing room, media room, flood lights renovation, setting up of volleyball and basketball facilities, swimming pools among other facilities to make the stadium meet the required global standards.
