President Yoweri Museveni has praised Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Councillors especially from Opposition for defying their leaders to attend a one-week leadership training programme at National Leadership Institute, Kyankwanzi.
Museveni made the remarks on Saturday while addressing a group of over 200 KCCA Councillors following their completion of their one-week leadership training programme.
“I commend the Councillors from different political affiliations for defying calls from some of their leaders to boycott this training,” Museveni said, adding that the Councillors should encourage the youth to fit into the four employment sectors; agriculture, industries, services and ICT in order to create wealth and employment for themselves.
“Leaders are like doctors. If you find a sick person, you advise them. Encourage these youths to find what to do in these sectors because minus that you would have betrayed your people,” he said.
He added: “If a youth is wearing a red band, which sector is that? I am saddened at how some of these leaders are using the naivety of these people to influence them.”
On the question of taxi drivers and levies charged by KCCA, Museveni said they have already begun discussions and they will meet again to resolve the issues.
