The intermediate-range missile that flew over Japan came less than two weeks after the DPRK conducted a test of a nuclear device on 3 September and only three days after the Security Council unanimously adopted a new round of sanctions against against the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK).

All UN Member States were subsequently urged to fully implement the sanctions in condemnation of what the UN described as the highly provocative” ballistic missile launch.
