Munyagwa COSASE Job To Wait Until BoU Probe Is Complete

Kawempe South MP, Mubarak Munyagwa will have to wait a little bit longer before replacing Abdu Katuntu as  the Chairperson of the Committee of Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (COSASE.

In August 2018, FDC President Patrick Amuriat replaced Katuntu as COSASE Chairperson and his deputy, Anita Among with Munyagwa and Rubaga North MP, Moses Kasibante respectively, but the new appointees couldn’t take office as the tenure of the current team hadn’t elapsed as their term of office lasts for two and half years.

The latest is that the top leadership of Parliament is in consultations with Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) to allow the current team completes their current duty before the new team takes charge of the Committee.

COSASE is currently probing findings in the special audit report by the Office of the Auditor General that revealed how BoU controversially closed and sold seven defunct banks.

The current COSASE tenure is set to elapse on 13th January before the Munyagwa team takes charge. However, this may not happen soon as Katuntu and team complete probing BoU.

“The leadership of Parliament is consulting the political parties both the organisation in power and the official position to see if there is an amicable way of ending as smoothly as it should be,” said Katuntu.

He added: “The decision isn’t for this committee; the decision is for Parliament together with ruling Party and the official opposition, so we shall await their decision. Meanwhile, we will continue proceeding until the 13th January.”
