The State Minister for Agriculture, Christopher Kibazanga Wednesday 4th December 2019 commissioned the Egypt- Uganda joint model farm project in Gomba district.
Also present was the Egyptian ambassador to Uganda, H.E Ahmed Abdel Aziz Mostafa.
The project is being managed by National Enterprises Corporation, the Enterprise arm for the UPDF on behalf of the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries.
While interacting with farmers and beneficiaries of the project, the Minister informed them that in the next 20 – 50 years, power will no longer be in the hands of those producing weapons of mass destruction but it will have shifted to those who are well organized to produce food for the whole world.
He said the demand for food is hitting 10 trillion dollars in the next 20-30 years worldwide much more than the demand for oil.
“800 million people of the world are starving therefore when you see a project like this one, it speaks volumes about repositioning Africa to produce food to feed the whole world so that Africa can be referred to as a supper power for the very first time,” Kibazanga said.
