Ministers Janet Museveni, Rebecca Kadaga Vetted Via Zoom

Former Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga receives First Lady Janet Museveni.

The Appointments Committee of Parliament sitting on Monday vetted Minister of Education Mrs Janet Museveni and the First Deputy Prime Minister Rebecca Kadaga virtually via zoom.

The committee chaired by Deputy Speaker of Parliament Anita Among sitting at the Parliaments, conference Hall started at 2:00 PM after the morning plenary which approved Vice President Jessica Alupo and Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja.

The former Speaker of Parliament and Kamuli Woman MP Rebecca Kadaga was the first to be vetted via zoom for the position of 1st Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Affairs Rebecca Kadaga.

According to sources who attended the committee, the MPs didn’t dwell much on Kadaga basing on the fact that she has served as a Speaker of Parliament.

“The chair of the meeting convinced members that Kadaga has been a Speaker and met all the requirements and she is more than fit at the position,” the source said.

Accordingly, members did not ask many questions.

The committee also vetted the First lady Janet Museveni via zoom. The committee reportedly spending over 40 minutes interacting with the first lady.

According to sources, the First lady and the former Speaker requested to appear via zoom because of issues like COVID-19. 

Meanwhile, the committee advised the four female Ministers in the office of the Prime Minister to work together.

According Lukia Nakadama, the 3rd Deputy Prime Minister and Minister without Portfolio, the committee was interested in knowing how the four female Ministers heading the office of the Prime Minister will work well together.

President Museveni appointed Kakumiro Woman MP Robinah Nabbanja as Prime Minister and Leader of Government, Rebecca Kadaga as 1st Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Community Affairs, Lukia Nakadama as 3rd Deputy Prime Minister and Minister without Port-folio and Justine Kasule Lumumba the Minister in charge of General duties in the Office of the Prime Minister.

  According to Nakadama, she told Members that based on her experience as an MP and Minister of Gender and Culture, she worked very well with her colleagues and she will ensure that she works well with the other colleagues.

Nakadama says that although she was not sure if she will be approved, she is confident that she performed well.

All the four female Ministers in the Office of the Prime Ministers are from Busoga.

The committee also vetted Health Minister Jane Ruth Aceng, and General Moses Ali. Jane Ruth Aceng spent over an hour in the appointments committee.

By Press time the committee was in the process of vetting Thomas Tayebwa who was appointed Government Chief Whip, Attorney General Appointee Kiryowa Kiwanuka, New Security Minister Jim Muhwezi, and Kasule Lumumba.
