Minister Kasaija Rallies Ugandans To Conserve Biodiversity

The Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development,  Matia Kasaija has said Government is committed to investing in emerging diversified innovations in clean water and sanitation, climate change mitigation, waste management and integrated environmental management.

He said Government of Uganda and UNDP launched Uganda Green growth development strategy in 2017 to guide the Country in the effective and efficient use of natural, human and physical capital for social economic transformation.

Kasaija made the remarks at the closure of the second Uganda waste, water and environment Convention 2019 held at Silver Springs Hotel Bugolobi recently.

“The Government of Uganda has registered tremendous achievements in the water and environment sector under the leadership of Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni,” Kasaija said.

He added that Government will continue to support public private partnerships in all the sectors of the economy aimed at transforming the country.

Kasaija called upon the private sector players to take advantage of the opportunities such as waste management disposal and recycling, renewable energy, water treatment, fish farming, water transport, irrigation and commercial agriculture and urged all Ugandans to promote the conservation of biodiversity.

 “As government, we will continue to support public private partnerships in all sectors of the economy aiming at transforming our country,” said Kasaija.

The theme of the one day conference was “Supporting Diversified Innovations in Waste, Water and Environment sector in attaining the Uganda Green Growth Development Strategy and the UN Sustainable Development Goals 2030”

The convention which focused on access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene, conservation and restoration of water resources and biodiversity was organized by The Visionaries of Uganda, a Private development consultancy firm promoting Uganda Vision 2040 and other initiatives in partnership with Government of Uganda, Private sector through Public Private Partnerships.

Job Mwesigwa, the Team Leader, The Visionaries of Uganda says that Visionaries of Uganda through partnership with government and other private companies, for the last 10 years through expos, award ceremonies, conventions, among other have boosted the Profiles of organizations whose innovative efforts have impacted on the lives of millions of people and increased social economic transformation of Uganda.

Other areas of focus were the latest waste management technology solutions and latest environmental engineering solutions.
